The Phantom Limb
GLITCH PROTOCOL Season 1, Episode 9: "The Phantom Limb" --- [CHAPTER 1: INSTALLATION] The arm was beautiful. Derek Hawkins sat in the Prosthetic Integration Center, watching as Dr. Anika Patel calibrated the neural connections. The prosthetic was a work of art—titanium skeleton wrapped in synthetic muscle fibers, covered by a skin so realistic it was almost indistinguishable from his biological arm before the accident. "The neural interface is revolutionary," Dr. Patel explained. "It reads your brain signals and translates them into movement. After a few weeks of calibration, you won't even think about it. The arm will feel like a part of you." Derek flexed his new fingers. The sensation was strange—not quite touch, but something close. A pressure that registered in his brain where his old arm used to be. "How does it feel?" Dr. Patel asked. "Weird. But good weird." He made a fist, opened it, made a fist again. The movements were smooth, precise, better than his original arm had ever been. "This is incredible." "The Prometheus 7 is our most advanced model. Full haptic feedback, neural learning capabilities, even adaptive strength modulation." Dr. Patel handed him a discharge folder. "You're our first civilian recipient. Military has been using them for about a year, but this is the first consumer-grade unit." Derek didn't ask about the price....
