Midnight Protocol

The System Has Rules

Midnight Protocol is built around visible mechanics. The reader should be able to understand why Rae survives, what she earns, what she risks, and how each choice changes the next episode.

Core promise: progression is not decorative. Levels, XP, quests, skills, inventory, threat ranks, and failure states must affect the story.

Levels & XP

XP comes from completed quests, survival bonuses, discovery events, and class-specific achievements.

  • Level 1-5: Initiate tier
  • Level 6-12: Specialist tier
  • Failure can delay unlocks

Classes

Classes begin from a real-world role and evolve under system pressure.

  • Courier: speed, routing, delivery constraints
  • Protocol Runner: anomaly routes and deadline buffs
  • Future branches depend on choices

Quests

Every major episode has objectives, timers, rewards, and failure consequences.

  • Timed deliveries
  • Rescue detours
  • Zone-lock risks

Skills

Skills unlock from repeated behavior, class milestones, and rare system events.

  • Route Sense
  • Deadline Burst
  • Parcel Ward

Inventory

Inventory has weight, slot, and binding limits. A tool can solve one problem and create another.

  • Bound satchel
  • Transit key
  • Utility tools

Threat Ranks

City blocks, monsters, and dungeon incidents carry ranks from F to S. Rae can outmaneuver threats she cannot beat.

  • D rank: survivable with route planning
  • C rank: requires skill use
  • B+ rank: avoid or pay a cost
